Champions League Preview (September 18, 2025) – 18.9. 2025

Club Brugge vs Monaco (18.09.2025, 18:45)

Tip: Double Chance Club Brugge (win or draw)

Brugge reached the Champions League group stage after a dominant qualification campaign, eliminating Rangers with a 9-1 aggregate score. They are traditionally very strong at the Jan Breydel Stadium – suffering just two defeats in their last 17 European home matches – and last season they won two of their three League Phase games at home. Despite dropping points in their last two league matches, their home record and attacking quality remain their biggest weapons. Monaco have won just once in their last 12 Champions League away games and will be without first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, while Stanis Idumbo is doubtful and Golovin missed their weekend match. Nicky Hayen will once again rely on key attackers Christos Tzolis and Nicolo Tresoldi, who played a major role in the demolition of Rangers. We expect Brugge to at least secure a draw and keep themselves in a good position in the group.

FC Copenhagen vs Bayer Leverkusen (18.09.2025, 18:45)

Tip: Leverkusen to win

Copenhagen return to the Champions League after a one-year absence, but their 1-2 derby defeat against Brondby left scars and their record against German sides is poor – eight home matches, eight defeats. They will also be missing key midfielder Magnus Mattsson and several other players. Bayer Leverkusen under new manager Kasper Hjulmand started a new era with an impressive 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, with Patrik Schick finding his scoring touch and Florian Wirtz pulling the strings in midfield. Having produced two excellent European campaigns in the last two seasons, Leverkusen will be eager to begin strongly and confirm their status as favourites. Their offensive power and squad depth should be enough to get all three points.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Galatasaray (18.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Both Teams to Score

Eintracht Frankfurt return to the Champions League after three years and have been consistently strong at home – losing just two of their last 13 European fixtures on home soil. However, they were beaten 3-1 by Leverkusen at the weekend and coach Dino Toppmoller has some selection issues – Mario Götze is unlikely to feature and Rasmus Kristensen is sidelined. Galatasaray, on the other hand, are in excellent form, having won all five of their matches this season, with Mauro Icardi leading the way in attack. Even though Gala have a poor away record in this competition – just one win from their last 17 group stage matches – their attacking quality should allow them to score at least once. We expect a balanced match with goals at both ends.

Manchester City vs Napoli (18.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Manchester City bounced back from two consecutive league defeats with a convincing 3-0 derby win against Manchester United, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and now approaching the 50-goal mark in the Champions League. City are unbeaten in their last 21 home group stage or league phase matches at the Etihad. Napoli, coached by Antonio Conte, have started their Serie A campaign perfectly – three wins from three – with Rasmus Højlund and Kevin De Bruyne quickly finding the scoresheet. Although Napoli have never won away to an English side in European competition, their attacking power should force City into an open game. We expect an exciting clash with plenty of chances and at least three goals scored.

Newcastle United vs Barcelona (18.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Barcelona to win

Newcastle return to the Champions League after a year away, and their 1-0 victory over Wolves has boosted morale. New signing Nick Woltemade scored a debut header, but Barcelona under Hansi Flick look dominant at the moment – a 6-0 win over Valencia and the attacking duo of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are in superb form. The Catalans were the highest scorers in last season’s League Phase and finished second in the table. Despite missing De Jong, Gavi and Ter Stegen, Barcelona have enormous squad quality and should have enough to win at St James’ Park.

Sporting Lisbon vs Kairat (18.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Sporting to win

Sporting are defending their Portuguese league title and come into this match in good spirits after a 2-1 win over Famalicao. Coach Rui Borges does have defensive issues – Ousmane Diomande remains sidelined – but the attack led by Luis Suarez, Pote Goncalves and Francisco Trincao promises goals. Kairat produced a fairytale run by eliminating Celtic on penalties but have struggled away from home in Europe, winning just three of their last 16 matches and failing to score in half of them. Sporting should control the game and secure a comfortable victory in Lisbon.
