Tip: Espanyol to win
The Catalan derby between Girona and Espanyol promises a heated atmosphere and very different moods in both camps. Girona have endured a very difficult start to the season, sitting bottom of the table with just two points from six matches. Their defense looks disorganized – they conceded ten goals in the opening three games, and although they held Athletic Bilbao to a draw, their performances lack stability. Coach Michel relies on the experience of Axel Witsel and the creativity of Azzedine Ounahi, but the absence of key names such as Thomas Lemar is evident. Espanyol, on the other hand, entered the new season full of confidence, defeating Atletico Madrid and Mallorca, and currently hold a place in the top four. Pere Milla has been particularly prolific with three goals to his name, while Javi Puado continues to impress on the wing. Espanyol look confident, their transitions are fast and effective, while Girona struggle both in finishing and at the back. Given the current form, the visitors should have the upper hand.
Tip: Getafe to win
Getafe have started the campaign as a solid and well-organized side capable of competing even against stronger opponents. They currently sit sixth with ten points, led in attack by Borja Mayoral and Adrian Liso, who has already scored three times. Under José Bordalás, Getafe are particularly tough to beat at home – disciplined in defense and sharp on the counter. Levante, as a newly promoted side, are still finding their feet in La Liga and have struggled to establish themselves. Although Ivan Romero and Karl Etta Eyong have shown flashes of quality in attack, their defense remains shaky, as highlighted by the heavy defeat to Real Madrid. Levante have not beaten Getafe in the league since 2020 and last won away against them seven years ago. With current form and historical context combined, Getafe are clear favorites. If they maintain their defensive solidity, the three points should stay in Madrid.
Tip: Real Madrid to win (X2)
The Madrid derby always delivers high tension, and this time Real arrive as the clear leaders of La Liga. Xabi Alonso’s team have won all six league matches and impressed in the Champions League as well, with Kylian Mbappé in phenomenal form, scoring nine goals in seven appearances. Alongside Vinícius Junior, he forms a devastating partnership that Atletico will find hard to contain. Simeone’s side did show character in their comeback win over Rayo Vallecano thanks to a hat-trick from Julián Álvarez, but overall their defense has not looked as solid as in previous seasons. Conor Gallagher brings energy and Alexander Sørloth returns to boost the squad, yet defensive inconsistency could be decisive. Recent derby history has been balanced – the last three league meetings ended 1-1. However, Real Madrid look dominant enough this season to finally break their winless run against their city rivals.
Tip: Alaves to win (X2)
Mallorca are in crisis after six rounds, still without a win and with only two points on the board, leaving them second from bottom. Coach Jagoba Arrasate can count on the prolific Vedat Muriqi, who has already scored four goals, but the rest of the team has offered little attacking support. Tactically, they appear too cautious, relying on long balls and struggling to create sustained pressure. Alaves, by contrast, have started the season solidly, picking up important points including a victory over Athletic Bilbao. Carlos Vicente and Lucas Boyé are proving effective in attack, while Carles Aleñá adds creativity in midfield. Historically, Mallorca have the better head-to-head record, but they have not beaten Alaves since 2022. Current form and balance across the pitch give the visitors the advantage, and they look more relaxed and confident than a nervous Mallorca. It should be a tight game, but Alaves are more likely to come away with points.
Tip: Villarreal to win
Villarreal have been one of the pleasant surprises of the early season, sitting third in the table. Marcelino’s team play with attacking intent and, despite several injuries, players like Tajon Buchanan and Dani Parejo have maintained a high level of performance. The Yellow Submarine also look more balanced defensively than last year, with a strong mix of attack and solidity at the back. Athletic, on the other hand, have gone four games without a win after a bright start, and Ernesto Valverde is still searching for his best lineup. Oihan Sancet remains a key figure in midfield, while the possible return of Nico Williams could add much-needed spark up front. Historically, Villarreal have struggled in this fixture, but current form favors them. Both teams are competing for places in the top half of the table, so it should be competitive and physical. Even so, home advantage and momentum give Villarreal the edge.
Tip: Sevilla to win or draw (X2)
Rayo Vallecano find themselves in a difficult situation, having failed to win any of their last five league games and slipping down to 14th place in the table. Coach Inigo Pérez knows his team has potential – against Atlético they managed to turn the score around before Julian Álvarez’s late goals broke them. Jorge de Frutos has been a key figure, already contributing with goals and assists, proving he can drive the attack. Sevilla, on the other hand, have made a better start than last season’s disastrous campaign, although their latest defeat against Villarreal showed consistency is still an issue. Matías Almeyda has experienced players at his disposal such as Alexis Sánchez and Isaac Romero, along with midfielder Lucien Agoumé, who is already attracting interest from big English clubs. Sevilla have a strong record against Rayo and rarely lose to this opponent. The depth of their squad also gives them a clear advantage. Rayo may be dangerous at home, but the quality lies with the visitors.
Tip: Elche to win
Elche have been performing above expectations since returning to La Liga and after six rounds they are one of the surprises of the season. They are among the few teams still unbeaten, and their defense has been impressively solid – conceding only five times. Coach Eder Sarabia relies on the experience of Rafa Mir up front and the versatility of Adria Pedrosa, who was crucial in their last match against Osasuna. Celta Vigo are in a completely different situation: they are still winless with five draws and one defeat. Borja Iglesias is showing his goal-scoring ability, but the team struggles with cohesion and especially in transition play. The added burden of European competition is taking its toll, as shown by their defeat to Stuttgart on Thursday. Elche enjoy the advantage of home ground and confidence, something Celta currently lack. If Elche’s attack proves more clinical, they should remain unbeaten.
Tip: Barcelona to win
Barcelona are navigating the league almost flawlessly and remain right behind Real Madrid. Their latest game against Oviedo showed that even when they concede first, they have the strength to turn the match around. Robert Lewandowski continues to score, while youngsters like Lamine Yamal are gradually returning to the squad. Raphinha is sidelined with injury, but coach Hansi Flick has plenty of options – Frenkie de Jong and Jules Koundé are expected to start. Real Sociedad, in contrast, have been one of the disappointments of the season so far. With just five points from six matches, coach Sergio Francisco is still searching for solutions. Mikel Oyarzabal did secure the win against Mallorca, but otherwise the Basque side’s attack looks toothless. History also favors Barcelona, who almost always take maximum points at home against Sociedad. Facing the quality of players like Kubo, Gündogan and above all Lewandowski will be a tough task for the visitors.
Tip: Betis to win
Real Betis have made a promising start to the season and, despite a demanding schedule including the Europa League, they continue to pick up points consistently. Cucho Hernández has been effective in attack, while Antony provides speed and creativity on the wing. Manuel Pellegrini has good squad depth, even if he is missing key players such as Isco and Marc Bartra. Osasuna remain defensively solid, conceding only five goals, but their attacking output is poor with just five goals scored. Ante Budimir is always a threat, but he often looks isolated up front. Historically, Osasuna struggle away at Betis, with their last win in Seville dating back to 2014. Los Verdiblancos will want to build on their win over Real Sociedad and confirm their strong home form. With Antony and Abde Ezzalzouli capable of breaking down the flanks, Betis hold the upper hand.
