2026 World Cup African Qualifiers Preview (September 6–8, 2025) – 6.-8.9. 2025

Nigeria vs Rwanda (06.09.2025, 18:00)

Tip: Nigeria to win

Nigeria face a make-or-break clash as they welcome Rwanda to Uyo in the CAF qualifiers. The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, trail leaders South Africa by six points and must win to keep their hopes alive, otherwise they risk missing the World Cup for the second time in a row. After a poor start and the resignation of coach Finidi George, Eric Chelle took over, beginning with a 2-0 win away to Rwanda, but momentum stalled with a draw against Zimbabwe. The team relies heavily on Victor Osimhen, who has scored three of Nigeria’s last four qualifying goals, supported by experienced midfielders Ndidi and Iwobi. Rwanda under Adel Amrouche have shown defensive solidity, conceding only four goals in six games, but their attack is blunt with just four goals scored. Despite Rwanda’s surprise win in Nigeria in a previous campaign, the context is very different this time. With quality, experience and home advantage, Nigeria are strong favourites. We back the hosts to win.

Central African Republic vs Comoros (07.09.2025, 18:00)

Tip: Comoros to win

The Central African Republic are out of contention after collecting only five points from seven games, their last hopes crushed by defeat to Madagascar. Les Fauves are winless in their last seven matches, lacking firepower and experience. Coach Yamissi has been forced to introduce new players, but the squad remains short on quality. Comoros, on the other hand, are still in the running for a historic first-ever World Cup appearance, despite a setback against Mali. Stefano Cusin’s side are built around El Fardou Ben Nabouhane and the creativity of Youssouf M’Changama. They started brightly with three wins in their first four matches and, although inconsistent recently, their ambition remains alive. The last meeting between these sides ended in a thrilling 4-2 win for Comoros, showing their attacking strength. With more quality and stronger motivation, Comoros are rightly favoured. We expect them to win.

Guinea vs Algeria (08.09.2025, 18:00)

Tip: Algeria to win

Guinea remain outsiders in Group G despite a 3-0 win against Somalia that lifted them to 10 points. Their qualification hopes are slim, although they will take confidence from their 2-1 upset against Algeria last year. Michel Dussuyer’s team depend heavily on Serhou Guirassy and defensive discipline, but their squad depth is limited. Algeria under Vladimir Petkovic are dominant, boasting six wins from seven matches with a goal difference of 19:7. They beat Botswana 3-1 last time out, with Bounedjah scoring twice, and continue to rely on stars like Mahrez, Amoura and Gouiri. Their defence, led by Aïssa Mandi, remains solid, and they have won 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions. Guinea may offer resistance at home, but Algeria’s firepower and consistency should prove decisive. We predict an Algeria win.

Guinea-Bissau vs Djibouti (08.09.2025, 18:00)

Tip: Guinea-Bissau to win

Guinea-Bissau saw their faint qualification hopes vanish after a 1-1 draw with Sierra Leone, but they will aim to bounce back at home. Coach Boa Morte depends on Mama Balde, who equalised in the last match, and midfielders Dalcio and Nogueira to provide stability. Djibouti are enduring a disastrous campaign, bottom of the group with one point, a goal difference of 4:26, and two consecutive 6-0 defeats. Their defence is chaotic, compounded by the suspension of key defender Isman. The team struggles from the outset of matches, and their attack poses little threat. In the reverse fixture, Guinea-Bissau managed a 1-0 victory even while down to ten men, highlighting the gap in class. With the difference in quality and confidence, Guinea-Bissau are clear favourites. We expect a straightforward home win.

Ghana vs Mali (08.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Double chance: Ghana not to lose

Ghana lead Group I but a 1-1 draw against Chad exposed their wastefulness in front of goal. Kudus, Ayew and Semenyo form a dangerous attack, but they have struggled to convert chances. Still, Ghana remain unbeaten in Accra and their defence has conceded only five goals in seven qualifiers. Mali revived their hopes with a 3-0 win over Comoros thanks to goals from Doumbia, Nene and Coulibaly. Coach Tom Saintfiet has built a defensively strong side led by Hamari Traoré, one of the best backlines in the group, though their attack lacks consistency. Ghana have a three-point cushion, while Mali trail by four and must risk more. The Black Stars have quality and home advantage, but Mali’s organisation makes them dangerous. Given the circumstances, the safest bet is Ghana not to lose.
