Tip: Balanced match, slight advantage Girona
After a weak last season, Girona strengthened with experienced players such as Witsel and Lemar, and without European commitments they can fully focus on the league. Rayo Vallecano comes off an eighth-place finish and participation in the Conference League qualifying round, with the squad remaining intact. Stylistically, it will be a clash between the home side’s combination play and the visitors’ organized defence. Individual attacking quality, especially from Lemar and Dovbyk, could slightly tilt the balance in favour of the hosts.
Tip: Villarreal win
After finishing fifth and qualifying for the Champions League, Villarreal opens against a promoted side returning to La Liga after 24 years. The hosts will rely on striker Pérez and new signing Moleiro, while Oviedo will bank on veterans such as Rondon and Cazorla. The historical record clearly favours Villarreal, who hold a significant home advantage and a higher-quality squad.
Tip: Barcelona win
Barcelona defends the title and brings in reinforcements Rashford and Bardghji, although they will be without Lewandowski and Olmo. Mallorca under Arrasate strengthened with Pablo Torre, but have lost 14 of their last 15 league meetings with Barcelona. Flick’s team boasts enormous attacking power, including the young Yamal, and should confirm their dominance despite the absence of some key players.
Tip: Draw
Alavés survived last season by just two points and brought in attacking reinforcements led by Mariano Díaz. Levante returns to La Liga after winning the Segunda and adds energy plus new names such as Olasagasti and Moreno, although they are limited by injuries. A meeting between two rebuilding sides could well end in a share of the points.
Tip: Balanced match, slight advantage Real Sociedad
Under Corberán, Valencia strengthened with Ugrinic and Danjuma but will be without several injured players. Real Sociedad has a new coach, Francisco, and brought in Guedes and Ćaleta-Car, while relying on Oyarzabal and Kubo. The Basques have been more successful in recent head-to-heads and may edge the hosts.
Tip: Celta Vigo win
Celta under Giráldez plays attacking football, but at the start of the season they are missing new signings due to registration issues. Iago Aspas remains the key man up front. Getafe relies on solid defence and physical play, strengthened by Kiko Femenía and Abqar. At home, Celta’s proactive style should be enough to overcome the visitors.
Tip: Athletic Bilbao win
Athletic retained Nico Williams and will rely on their attacking strength at the San Mamés. Sevilla begins the season under Almeyda but lost Badé and faces injury problems. The Basques play compact, intense football, which should be enough against a weakened opponent.
Tip: Atlético Madrid win
Espanyol only secured survival at the last moment and faces another relegation battle. Atlético invested heavily (Hancko, Baena, Álvarez, Almada) and, despite minor absences, have the quality to decide such matches. Simeone’s side knows they cannot afford to drop points if they want to fight for the title.
Tip: Elche win
As Segunda champions, Elche play attacking football and have their full starting eleven available. Betis are dealing with the loss of key players and injuries to Isco, Roca, and Abde. Given the current state of the visitors, Elche has a good chance for a winning return in front of their home crowd.
Tip: Real Madrid win
Real Madrid begins the Xabi Alonso era with signings Alexander-Arnold and Mbappé at the forefront. Bellingham and Rüdiger are missing, but the attacking trio of Mbappé – Vinícius – Díaz has a huge advantage over a weakened Osasuna. The visitors have lost key players and are undergoing a squad rebuild, which at the Bernabéu could mean a one-sided match.
