Bundesliga Matchday 3 Preview (September 12–14, 2025) – 12.-14.9. 2025

Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt (12.09.2025, 20:30)

Tip: Both teams to score (BTTS)

Leverkusen begins a new era under coach Kasper Hjulmand, who has had only two training sessions with the team and is therefore unlikely to make major changes to the lineup. The hosts need to recover from a 3-3 draw with Bremen, where they squandered a two-goal lead. Eintracht Frankfurt have started the season in great fashion, thrashing Engers 5-0 in the DFB Pokal before recording dominant Bundesliga wins over Bremen and Hoffenheim. Dino Toppmöller’s side boasts tremendous attacking power, but their defense has also looked vulnerable. Frankfurt are preparing for their Champions League opener against Galatasaray, which could lead to some rotation, but the visitors’ form is strong enough to expect a goal from them. History is clearly on Leverkusen’s side, as they have won the last 11 competitive meetings with Frankfurt, but the current form of both teams suggests an open game. The most likely scenario is that both teams will score.

Freiburg vs Stuttgart (13.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: Stuttgart to win

Freiburg sit at the bottom of the table after two rounds, conceding seven goals, which is alarming for Julian Schuster’s team. They also lost their only home match of the season so far against Augsburg. Stuttgart have struggled with efficiency, but they managed to beat Gladbach in the last round, which gave them a crucial confidence boost. The head-to-head record favors the visitors, who have won three of the last four meetings. Although they are missing key players in both defense and attack, the deeper squad and higher quality are on Stuttgart’s side. Freiburg are desperate to avoid a historically poor start, but unless they improve their defensive phase, Stuttgart’s quick transition play could hurt them. We expect a narrow away win.

Heidenheim vs Borussia Dortmund (13.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: Dortmund to win

Heidenheim are yet to earn a point and look set for another difficult season. Frank Schmidt’s side have struggled defensively, conceding five goals in their opening two matches. Dortmund, on the other hand, bounced back from a 3-3 draw at St. Pauli by beating Union Berlin 3-0 at home, showcasing their attacking firepower. Serhou Guirassy is in great form and is one of Europe’s top scorers in 2025. Although BVB are still without several key players such as Brandt and Süle, their squad quality and tempo are on a different level compared to the hosts. Heidenheim surprised a few teams at home last year, but facing a side of Dortmund’s caliber will be very challenging. The visitors should confirm their favorite tag and claim all three points.

Mainz 05 vs RB Leipzig (13.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: RB Leipzig to win

Mainz are still struggling at home, having not won a league match there since February, and they will be without Nebel and possibly Lee Jae-sung. RB Leipzig quickly bounced back from their thrashing by Bayern with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim, restoring some confidence. Ole Werner’s team boasts a strong midfield led by Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons, who can decide the game. Leipzig have no European commitments this season, which allows them to focus fully on the Bundesliga. The head-to-head record between these sides is fairly even, but current form favors the visitors. If Leipzig avoid defensive lapses, they should secure back-to-back league wins.

Union Berlin vs Hoffenheim (13.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: Both teams to score (BTTS)

Union Berlin looked toothless against Dortmund, but they are traditionally strong at home. They also have an excellent record against Hoffenheim, winning the last three head-to-head meetings. Hoffenheim lost 3-1 to Frankfurt in the last round, but their attack remains dangerous and regularly finds the net. Their defense is the main weakness, failing to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven Bundesliga games. Union struggle with possession and chance creation, but against a team that plays openly they should have opportunities. This match is likely to feature attacking football and goals at both ends.

Wolfsburg vs FC Köln (13.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: Wolfsburg to win

Wolfsburg have made a solid start under new coach Paul Simonis – four points from two games plus a convincing DFB Pokal win suggest good form. Christian Eriksen has joined the team and could make his debut, adding experience and creativity. Köln, as a newly-promoted side, shocked everyone with a win at Mainz and a big victory over Freiburg, but playing away will be much tougher. Wolfsburg have quality attackers like Amoura and Wimmer and will be eager to end their home struggles from last season. If they replicate their performance against Heidenheim, they have an excellent chance to take all three points. We expect a narrow home win.

Bayern Munich vs Hamburger SV (13.09.2025, 18:30)

Tip: Bayern to win & over 2.5 goals

Bayern are unstoppable at the start of the season – four wins from four competitive matches with a combined score of 15:1 says it all. Vincent Kompany has his team firing on all cylinders, and new signing Nicolas Jackson is ready to make his debut. Hamburg are struggling after their Bundesliga return, yet to score a goal and coming off a derby defeat to St. Pauli. They will also miss Gocholeishvili due to suspension. The historical record is brutal – Bayern have won 13 of the last 14 head-to-head games, often by large margins. The Allianz Arena is a nightmare venue for HSV, with past results including 6-0, 8-0 and 5-0. We expect another dominant Bayern victory with at least three goals scored in the match.

St. Pauli vs Augsburg (14.09.2025, 15:30)

Tip: Draw

St. Pauli have made an excellent start to the season, collecting four points from their first two games, including a memorable 2-0 derby win over Hamburg. Alexander Blessin’s men showed tremendous character by coming back from 3-1 down to draw with Dortmund on the opening day. Millerntor Stadion is traditionally a fortress, and the fans will be expecting another intense display. Augsburg, under new coach Sandro Wagner, also look refreshed and impressed with a 3-1 away win at Freiburg before narrowly losing 3-2 to Bayern Munich. New signings Ismael Gharbi and Fabian Rieder add creativity in midfield and could make an impact here. Both teams have some injury concerns which may affect the tempo of the game. With both sides in decent form and playing positive football, this could turn into a lively and evenly balanced contest. We expect a close match with the spoils shared.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Werder Bremen (14.09.2025, 17:30)

Tip: Both teams to score

Borussia Monchengladbach are still waiting for their first goal of the season, increasing the pressure on coach Gerardo Seoane. After a goalless draw against Hamburg and a narrow defeat to Stuttgart, Die Fohlen need a reaction in attack. Yannik Engelhardt should add energy and control in midfield after rejoining the club. Werder Bremen’s main problem has been their defence, conceding seven goals in two matches, but they remain dangerous going forward. The thrilling 3-3 draw with Leverkusen showed they can hurt opponents offensively. Victor Boniface is expected to make his debut after joining on loan from Leverkusen and could boost their attacking threat further. Injuries to defenders Pieper, Weiser and Wober keep the back line weakened, which might open up spaces for the hosts. Considering both teams’ weaknesses at the back and their attacking potential, we expect goals from both sides.
