English League Matchday 4 Preview (September 13–14, 2025) – 13.-14.9. 2025

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest (13.09.2025, 13:30)

Tip: Arsenal win

Arsenal will be eager to bounce back from a narrow defeat at Anfield and return to winning ways when they host Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium under the management of Ange Postecoglou. Despite the loss to Liverpool, the Gunners put in a solid performance and, according to the statistics, were the more active side, so trust in Arteta's strategy remains strong. The injury to William Saliba is an unfortunate blow, but Cristhian Mosquera showed against Liverpool that he can handle the defensive duties. Ben White is expected to start as well, which should bring further stability at the back. In attack, Eberechi Eze is expected to make his first start and provide Arsenal with creativity and an element of surprise. Nottingham Forest are beginning a new era under Postecoglou, who is known for his offensive and aggressive style, but it will be interesting to see whether he dares to play openly at the Emirates. Forest are struggling with injuries in defence and the absence of Zinchenko could prove crucial against a team with such pace on the wings. Arsenal also have an excellent home record against Forest and have not lost to them at the Emirates since 1989. The combination of home advantage, better form and strong motivation to get back to the top of the table gives the Gunners a great chance of taking all three points.

Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion (13.09.2025, 16:00)

Tip: Over 2.5 goals

Vitality Stadium will host a very exciting derby between two sides that are in form and enjoy playing attacking football. Bournemouth, after their opening defeat to Liverpool, have recorded two consecutive 1-0 victories, including an impressive win away at Tottenham, and have shown that they can be very dangerous on the counterattack. Brazilian forward Evanilson is in good form, and his partnership with the creativity of Ryan Christie could be crucial. Brighton, on the other hand, produced a major shock before the international break by coming from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1. Fabian Hürzeler's team plays with excellent pressing and great intensity, which could cause problems for the hosts. Brajan Gruda impressed with the winning goal and is in line for a start, while Danny Welbeck continues to lead the line. Statistics indicate that matches between these two sides tend to produce goals – five of the last six meetings have seen over 2.5 goals scored. Both teams possess strong attacking units but also vulnerable defences, which should result in an open game with chances for both sides.

Crystal Palace vs Sunderland (13.09.2025, 16:00)

Tip: Crystal Palace win

Selhurst Park will witness a clash between two sides with very different objectives, as the home side Crystal Palace look to extend their long unbeaten run while newly promoted Sunderland aim to continue their surprisingly strong start to the season. Palace entered the international break on a high after a convincing 3-0 away victory at Aston Villa, where Mateta and captain Guehi were outstanding. Oliver Glasner has a strong squad at his disposal, although he will be without injured Ismaila Sarr, whose place will be taken by summer signing Yermy Pino. The hosts rely on their solid defence and an eleven-match unbeaten run at home, which gives them great confidence. Sunderland have made a solid start to life back in the Premier League, with new arrivals such as Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida adding quality, but their away record in August and September is dreadful – they have failed to win away from home in these months for 25 consecutive matches. Palace also have a strong record against promoted sides and rarely drop points at home. If they maintain their discipline and compactness, they should secure back-to-back wins.

Everton vs Aston Villa (13.09.2025, 16:00)

Tip: Everton win

Everton are enjoying a dream start to the season, and the fans are loving the atmosphere at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, where David Moyes’ side have looked very strong so far. After a 2-0 win over Brighton and a hard-fought 3-2 victory away to Wolves, the Toffees sit fifth in the table with six points. Jack Grealish has immediately become the team's talisman and is on the verge of history – he could become the first Premier League player to record two assists in three consecutive matches. Aston Villa, by contrast, are struggling badly and are the only team yet to score a goal this season, which is a major concern for the supporters. Unai Emery’s side suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last match, and morale is low. They also have a poor recent record against Everton – although they have kept clean sheets on this ground in recent years, this is a much stronger Everton side. The Toffees are playing with great confidence, their pressing is working well, and their attack is productive. If they keep their intensity and focus, they have a big chance to deepen Villa’s crisis.

Fulham vs Leeds United (13.09.2025, 16:00)

Tip: Draw

Craven Cottage will host a meeting between two sides with contrasting concerns – Fulham are still searching for their first win of the season and continue to struggle defensively, while Leeds are enjoying their return to the Premier League but have failed to win their last two matches. Fulham felt hard done by after controversial decisions in their defeat to Chelsea, but their performance was encouraging and new signings Kevin and Chukwueze could provide extra attacking spark. Leeds, under Daniel Farke, have built their game on defensive organisation and have already kept two clean sheets, which is important for a newly promoted side. There are question marks over their attacking options as both Piroe and Nmecha are doubts, which could give Dominic Calvert-Lewin the chance to start as he searches for his first goal for Leeds. Fulham have beaten Leeds three times in a row, which is a positive sign, but the visitors will be motivated to end their poor run of results in London. This match looks evenly balanced, with both teams likely to prioritise avoiding mistakes over playing too open.

Newcastle United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (13.09.2025, 16:00)

Tip: Newcastle win

Newcastle are still looking for their first win of the season, and St. James’ Park will expect a response after their narrow defeat to Liverpool. Eddie Howe now has new attacking options – Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa – who could provide the cutting edge that has been missing. Defensively, the Magpies have been excellent, allowing the fewest shots in the league, but their finishing has been poor. Wolves are in crisis, having lost all three matches so far and conceding eight goals, the worst defensive record in the division. Vitor Pereira needs to stop the slide, but a trip to the North East is a daunting prospect – Wolves have won here only once in their last 22 visits. New signing Tolu Arokodare is expected to make his debut and add some presence up front, but fixing their defence is essential if they want to take anything from this game. Newcastle will look to take advantage of Wolves’ bad form and end their own winless run, with the home crowd likely to play a key role.

West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur (13.09.2025, 18:30)

Tip: Draw

This London derby between West Ham and Tottenham comes at a time when both sides are facing internal challenges – Spurs are playing their first match since the departure of long-serving chairman Daniel Levy, while West Ham are trying to build on their impressive win at Nottingham. The Hammers showed great improvement with a 3-0 victory powered by Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paquetá and Callum Wilson, giving Graham Potter reason for optimism. However, their home form is poor – they are winless in six league matches at London Stadium, and Tottenham have not lost at this ground since 2019. Spurs need to bounce back from their defeat to Bournemouth, and new CEO Vinai Venkatesham will be eager to see an immediate response. Xavi Simons is expected to get his first start and add creativity to the team. West Ham, though, will rely on the red-hot Bowen, who is in outstanding form. This derby is likely to be a close contest and could end with the points being shared, although goals at both ends are very likely.

Brentford vs Chelsea (13.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Chelsea win

Chelsea continue their run of London derbies and head to Brentford Community Stadium as favourites, having enjoyed one of their best starts to a season in years under Enzo Maresca. Their win over Fulham came with a bit of controversy, but the Blues were solid defensively and kept another clean sheet. Cole Palmer could return to the starting XI and boost their creativity, while new signing Alejandro Garnacho might make his debut and offer fresh pace in attack. Brentford are still searching for consistency after losing key players, and the defeat at Sunderland was a setback for Keith Andrews' side. Igor Thiago remains their main attacking threat, but the loss of Wissa has weakened their forward line. Chelsea have a superior record in this derby and currently boast one of the best defensive units in the league. If they cope with the difficult away atmosphere, they should be able to take all three points and keep the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table.

Burnley vs Liverpool (14.09.2025, 15:00)

Tip: Liverpool to win

Liverpool enter this match as Premier League leaders with a perfect record of three wins, and their confidence is at its peak. Arne Slot’s side possesses immense attacking power – Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah are in excellent form, while record signing Alexander Isak could make his debut from the bench. Burnley may be unbeaten in 25 home league matches, but they are still adapting to life in the top flight and have already conceded six goals in their first three matches. History heavily favors the visitors – Liverpool have won their last six trips to Turf Moor and have scored in each of their last 37 league matches. Scott Parker is still without several key defenders, which could be decisive against the league’s most potent attack. Burnley will try to remain compact and strike on the counter, but the pressure from Liverpool is expected to be relentless. If Liverpool maintain their current form and focus, they should collect all three points and keep their perfect start intact.

Manchester City vs Manchester United (14.09.2025, 17:30)

Tip: Both teams to score

The Manchester derby at the Etihad comes at a time when both sides are searching for form – City find themselves in the bottom half of the table after three games, while United remain inconsistent. Pep Guardiola is facing a defensive crisis, with Gvardiol, Stones and Ait-Nouri all sidelined, which could leave spaces for United’s attack to exploit. Benjamin Sesko is expected to get his first Premier League start and, together with Bruno Fernandes and Rashford, should provide a real threat going forward. On the other side stands Erling Haaland, who is always highly motivated against United and will look to add to his goal tally. Recent derbies have tended to be more open with goals at both ends – home advantage often disappears, as shown by the fact that the home side has won only six of the last twenty meetings. City still boast a strong midfield led by Rodri and De Bruyne, so the chances of both teams scoring at least once are high. Expect a high-tempo, attacking encounter with goals likely at both ends.
