Eredivisie Matchday 5 Preview (September 13–14, 2025) – 13.-14.9. 2025

Ajax vs PEC Zwolle (13.09.2025, 16:30)

Tip: Ajax to win

Ajax return to the Johan Cruyff Arena after two away draws, where they have kept two clean sheets and recorded two 2-0 victories this season. Johnny Heitinga’s men will want to re-establish their dominance at home and bounce back after dropping points on the road. Key man Wout Weghorst, who did not score last time out but provided the assist for Ko Itakura’s goal, remains a crucial part of Ajax’s attacking setup. The hosts have an impressive head-to-head record against Zwolle, having won 16 of the last 17 meetings. Zwolle under Henry van der Vegt have made a positive start to the campaign, but their record in Amsterdam has been poor for decades. The visitors have failed to score in their last two games and need to find a way to convert chances. Twente hold the better head-to-head record and usually perform well at De Grolsch Veste. If they can break their scoring drought, they should take a vital victory. We expect a tight match but believe the three points will stay in Enschede.

Feyenoord vs Heerenveen (13.09.2025, 21:00)

Tip: Feyenoord to win

Feyenoord remain perfect in the Eredivisie this season and have been dominant at De Kuip under Robin van Persie. The team have conceded just once in three league games and will look to avenge their painful defeat to Heerenveen back in May, which derailed their title challenge. Ayase Ueda is in excellent form, scoring four goals so far, and will again be the main danger for the visitors. He will be supported by Sem Steijn, who has been the creative spark with nine chances created already. Heerenveen have made a poor start with two losses and two draws and are among the league’s weakest defences. Despite their win over Feyenoord last spring, their current form suggests they will struggle here. If Feyenoord play with the same intensity shown against Sparta and Excelsior, they should secure a comfortable win. We expect Feyenoord to take all three points and maintain their 100% record.

SBV Excelsior vs Sparta Rotterdam (14.09.2025, 11:15)

Tip: Both Teams to Score (BTTS)

This Rotterdam derby features two sides with leaky defenses – both have conceded 11 goals in their first four games, the joint-second worst record in the league. Excelsior finally got their first win of the season before the international break despite being reduced to ten men, which should boost morale. Sparta have been more consistent going forward, with Tobias Lauritsen in good form, but they also shipped four goals to Feyenoord last time out and will miss Bruno Martins Indi through suspension. Excelsior tend to score at home and have found the net in three of their four games, while Sparta have scored in every match since the opening-day defeat to PSV. Recent meetings between these sides have been open affairs with goals at both ends. BTTS looks like the safest bet given both teams’ attacking intent and defensive vulnerabilities.

Heracles Almelo vs AZ Alkmaar (14.09.2025, 13:30)

Tip: AZ Alkmaar to Win

Heracles are bottom of the table with four defeats from four games and have conceded a league-high 14 goals, continuing their defensive struggles from last season. New coach Bas Sibum is under pressure to find solutions, but confidence is low after six consecutive Eredivisie matches without a win. AZ Alkmaar have started strongly with seven points from three matches and remain unbeaten away from home in their last four league trips. Even with several injuries, Maarten Martens’ men still have the quality and depth to control the game. Expect AZ to dominate possession and create plenty of chances against the league’s weakest defence. An away win is the logical prediction here.

FC Utrecht vs Groningen (14.09.2025, 13:30)

Tip: FC Utrecht to Win

Utrecht are flying high with three wins in their first four games and boast one of the best home records in the league, unbeaten in nine consecutive matches at Stadion Galgenwaard. Ron Jans’ men have scored at least twice in eight of their last ten matches, making them one of the most reliable attacking teams. Groningen arrive in good spirits after a 4-0 win over Heracles but have been poor away from home, losing both road games this season by an aggregate score of 8-3. Utrecht’s defence has also improved, keeping three clean sheets in their last four matches. The hosts will look to dominate early and keep pressure on the top two in the standings. We expect Utrecht to continue their strong form and take all three points.

Telstar vs Fortuna Sittard (14.09.2025, 15:45)

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Telstar have shown they can score goals at this level, hitting two past Volendam and following up with a stunning 2-0 win at PSV. At home, they have been very strong with just one defeat in their last twelve matches. Fortuna Sittard are an unpredictable side but can be dangerous going forward, especially with Mohamed Ihattaren in form after scoring twice last time out. However, they have not kept a clean sheet away from home since February, which suggests Telstar will have chances.
