Tip: FC St.Gallen to win
St. Gallen opened the season with two victories, repeating the successful start of the 2020/21 campaign. At home, they have won seven of their last ten league matches and have been strong from set pieces – scoring from a corner in both opening rounds. Winterthur, on the other hand, have yet to win this year and have lost seven of their last ten away games. Although they have done well in recent head-to-head meetings with St. Gallen, the current form and defensive absences favour the hosts.
Tip: Draw
Luzern have gone four league games without a home win and are traditionally strong at home against newly promoted sides, but Thun are currently riding the wave of enthusiasm after returning to the Super League. The visitors have won both opening matches and excel with aggressive pressing and quick transitions, which could unsettle Luzern’s young line-up. The hosts rely on the form of striker Grbic, but Thun lead the league in PPDA and high recoveries. Balanced strengths and contrasting playing styles point towards a share of the spoils.
Tip: BSC Young Boys to win
Young Boys are unbeaten at home in the league for 16 matches and, despite a less-than-ideal start to the season, the squad’s quality and attacking power remain high. Sion have started with two wins and their best scoring start in club history, but they have a poor long-term record against YB and play at a ground where points are rare. The hosts are motivated to bounce back from a slow start and Sion’s absences could be decisive. The backing of the Wankdorf crowd should make the difference.
Tip: Servette FC to win
Servette have a long-term dominant record against GC, winning eight of the last ten meetings. Despite a poor start to the season and a managerial change, the hosts have a quality squad, including striker Stevanovic, who has a good scoring record against the Grasshoppers. GC have lost the first two rounds and struggle away from home, with four consecutive defeats. Servette have the perfect opportunity to turn things around against a favourite opponent.
Tip: Both teams to score
Both Lugano and Basel have had defensive issues early in the season, but also possess attacking quality. Basel have scored at least four goals in three of their last four matches, while Lugano have kept only one clean sheet in their last five home games. Historically, matches in Cornaredo against Basel see an average of two or more goals for the home side alone, suggesting an open contest. Basel have Shaqiri in top form, while Lugano excel in aerial duels – goals should come at both ends.
Tip: FC Lausanne-Sport to win
Lausanne have kept clean sheets in their last three home league matches against Zürich and have started the season better, largely thanks to the productivity of Kaly Sène. FCZ are on a run of poor results and have yet to win this season. The visitors are also missing several key players, including goalkeeper Huber. Lausanne excel at crossing and have the highest average number of crosses in the league, which could trouble Zürich’s weakened defence. Home form and the psychological edge from recent meetings favour Lausanne.
